This course introduces and examines selection of plays and performance styles from various parts of the world during the period between 1850 and present day. Through a study of dramatic works, critical texts, and historical context, we will explore the intersection between the performing arts and the world with which they engage.  The course will illustrate how global developments inspired theatremakers to respond to the periods of modernism and beyond.
